Introduction to Stage Management with Ryan Tate
Do you want to learn how to be a Stage Manager? Then join us for a half-day workshop led by industry professional Ryan Tate.
This workshop will focus on:
- The role of a Stage Manager: what they do day-to-day, how they fit into a theatrical company and what their function is in rehearsals and performances
- What preparation is involved leading up to performances
- What is needed to create a great Stage Manager. How working closely with cast, crew, directors and designers we facilitate and help create the finished theatrical production.
- There will be discussion about what is needed and expected of a Stage Manager during performances and how they are a key figure in bringing together all elements of the production to make it look seamless and professional
Who can attend:
- Participants do not need stage management experience, but an understanding of the theatre will be helpful (community groups, high school, tertiary and professionals all welcome)
- Participants must be aged 16 or over
Complimentary morning tea will be provided.

MASTERCLASS

Masterclass: In-Depth Stage Management with Ryan Tate
This half day masterclass delves into expert in-depth industry knowledge with Ryan Tate.
Communication and Leadership is key, some focus points will be on:
- Leading teams effectively
- Creating purposeful plans
- Understanding the collaboration process with directors, cast and crew
- Scheduling responsibilities
- Understanding and overseeing all practical aspects of a theatrical production. Build on your organisational skills to ensure a performance runs smoothly
- Deepen your skills in cueing and calling shows
- Understanding the importance of the prompt copy - note taking and adjustments
- Problem solving with patience, empathy, and confidence. Case studies
- Building positive relationships with performers and crew (yours and the venues)
Who can attend:
- Participants need to have had hands-on experience in stage management
- Participants must be aged 18 or over
