The Story Kitchen

Local Stories, Global Flavours

The Story Kitchen is a celebration of the food, cultures and everyday stories of people who call the Central Coast home.

This first series focuses on Toukley, where a group of local restaurateurs have shared their personal stories and their favourite recipe. Together, they offer a glimpse into the people behind some of the area’s most loved local food. These are not just dishes served in restaurants. They are recipes shaped by memory, family, migration and the everyday act of cooking for others.

Aster - Aster Café

Aster has run Aster Café in Toukley for over 11 years. Originally from Jakarta, she is a self-taught cook known for simple, comforting café food, including her popular rissole rolls. Passionate about people, she values her regular customers and the strong community connections built through her café.

Robert - Urban Coast

Robert’s journey began in Vietnam and continues in Toukley. His cooking is thoughtful and precise, shaped by care, discipline and memory. Each dish reflects influences from home and years of experience across cultures. For Robert, food is about connection, creating a welcoming space where people feel at home.

Allan - Canton Restaurant

Allan was born in China’s Guangdong province and moved to Australia at 13, joining a family history spanning over 130 years. His café grew into one of the Central Coast’s longest-running Chinese restaurants, with cooking rooted in Cantonese traditions, fresh ingredients and simple, balanced flavours shaped by shared family meals.

Mohammad - Yummy Kebab & Charcoal Chicken

Mohammad’s kitchen is built on generosity, comfort and shared connection. His food reflects his journey from Bangladesh to the Central Coast, with familiar flavours and slow-cooked meals at the heart. For Mohammad, food is simple. It brings people together, creating warm, welcoming experiences through every dish served.
