Expressing Memories of Childhood with Collage and Paint
Artist Hyun Hee Lee, who is taking up her art residency in the gallery container in Toulkey will hold a number of workshops until June 2026.
This workshop will be inspired from memories of childhood, students will be encouraged to think about happy or important childhood memories. These memories will be interpreted into key words which will then be drawn and cut out in bold type on coloured papers. This process will produce both positive and negative shapes which can then be assembled and glued onto a prepared canvas.
The choice of coloured papers and the coloured preparation of the canvas will contribute to the emotional and subjective narrative within the created artworks. The use of positive and negative shapes throughout the work reflects not only what we remember but also of what we have forgotten. She believe these memories are fundamentally important often provoking cathartic and meditative emotions. These artworks can be taken home as a permanent and happy reminder of a special time in childhood.
You will guide students through the creative development against the background of my own work and my Korean childhood memories.
