Fun and Free
The Central Coast proves the best things in life are free

5 Lands Walk

The 5 Lands Coastal Walkway is a spectacular route tracing along some of the Central Coast's most breathtaking coastline.

An important vision of the annual 5 Lands Walk (a cultural festival held each year in June) was the establishment of a permanent signposted walkway, encompassing as much of the coastline and natural environment as is both physically and culturally safe.

This vision was shared by Gosford City Council  and the local community, and after a public consultation process, Council approved the 5 Lands Coastal Walkway Master Plan on 7 February 2012.

In the following months, Captain Cook Lookout at Copacabana has been reconfigured to improve the parking area, install a drinking water tap and build a new lookout with disability access. The Walkway also now has distinctive signage (see images above), all including important information and directions.

Pelican Feeding

Pelican Feeding is one of the Central Coast's most popular tourist attractions. The pelican feeding attracts thousands of families yearly back to The Entrance where they get an entertaining and educated commentary about the pelicans, birds and marine life as well as general information about the area.

The Feeding started over 20 years ago by staff at Clifford’s fish and chip shop, who would feed scraps to the pelicans every day. Jimbo’s Seafood then took over the feeding by this time it was a tradition, and the pelicans would waddle over to Jimbo’s, crossing what was then a road, to demand their fish from staff.

In 1996, The Entrance Town Centre Management built the feeding platform known as Pelican Plaza. They, in conjunction with the many sponsors, have made it possible to feed the pelicans whole fresh fish 365 days a year - making it the spectacle it is today.

One of the main objectives of the pelican feed is to keep an eye on the pelican's medical conditions as many have hooks and lines tangled up in their gullets, wings and other parts of their body. The feed is a chance for the co-ordinator and volunteers to assess their well being.

Make sure you bring your camera! Pelican Feeding operates at 3.30pm daily, 365 days a year come rain, hail or shine. Pelican Feeding is a FREE activity.
