Since 2003, EMERGING has been running as a biennial art award to support early-career practices for artists. This exhibition provides the opportunity for artists to develop and exhibit a new or existing body of work at Gosford Regional Gallery, supporting a wide range of installation-based practices and non-traditional mediums for presentation to a regional gallery audience.
For early career artists, opportunities to gain recognition of practice and experience within a professional gallery setting to explore and create, gain feedback and confidence, are essential to building a sustainable and fruitful career in contemporary arts.
This year, we have selected six projects to support early career artists who are based in Sydney and the Hunter region. These concepts present a cross section of works including the use of recycled glass, ceramic, fibres, photography, time-based media and installation practices and show a dedication to medium and pursual of a career in the arts by all the artists involved.
Judged by Artspace Sydney’s curator Tahlia Linz, the award was announced at the opening event on the 3 February at Gosford Regional Gallery

We believe creativity is nurtured from the seeds of wild ideas. We create places for discovery. We are irreverent, offbeat, and positively disruptive. We are made, not manufactured.
